It Started on the Karel Cast

I’ve been a major market talk show host, entertainer, recording artist and published author/journalist for decades. But it wasn’t until I turned 55 years old that I realized I needed to change my life, change my diet, or I was going to die. Literally. I was overweight, to the tune of 310 pounds, and on six medications. So in one day, I decided it was time to make a change and I became a vegan. I didn’t know anything, and I was in Long Beach, CA in 2017, not a bastion of veganism.

In 2018 I moved to Las Vegas with my little service dog Ember and there were a few more vegan options, but not many. Over the years, the community has grown by leaps and bounds, with the best vegan chefs opening venues, and with many vegan and vegan-friendly small businesses opening up. And I’ve been watching, and eating, my way through all of them. So why not write about it, something I’ve done forever? So, Vegan in Vegas became a segment on my radio / podcast called a few things, like the Planted Host, Die Healthy, and finally Vegan in Vegas.

Beyond just the venues.

Being a vegan isn’t just about eating out. It’s about eating in, cooking, shopping. It’s about technology, about expanding your palette and your kitchen. It’s about what to do when you travel, and what to do when you’re at a non-vegan establishment as well.

Beyond the bright lights

Las Vegas is a lot more than casinos and we take you beyond those bright lights when you want to eat. But also, people in Las Vegas leave, in case you saw the movie…and when you leave, you still have to eat. So, whenever I, or any contributors, travel, we’ll write about what we find in those cities to eat as well. Also, how to travel well as a vegan, because sometimes, you are truly on your own. The site will feature everything from vegan menu options, to full fledged vegan chefs, establishments, travel and technology.
